How do I access SSH (Secure Shell)?

To access SSH, you need an SSH client. We recommend using PuTTY which is a free product.

Once installed and opened, you’ll be presented with a window that looks like this and from there you need to implement your server IP address. The server IP address can be found in your welcome email. The SSH port on all of our servers is 8145, rather than the Linux default of 22. All you need to do is input your server IP into the Host Name box and then click on Open

You will then be prompted to enter a username. The username will always be root (by default) which you need to type and then hit enter. Once you’ve entered the username, you need to input the root password. The root password can be found in your welcome email.

If you’ve successfully connected, you will see something like the below:

login as: root
root@yourserverip’s password:
Last login: Fri Oct 25 16:18:24 2013 from yourcomputerip
[root@hostname ~]#
